How have you, a family member, or a friend been involved with virtual education on any level?
eg. My daughter is completing her B.S.this month.
Many of her nursing courses were completed online leaving her
the opportunity to be home with my Grandaughter while completing coursework.
How does virtual education play out in the earlier grades?
As always your imput is greatly valued.
Congratulations to your daughter for getting her degree! That's a great milestone for her and I'm sure her daughter was pleased to have her mom at home with her. I think it's so important for children to have their parent/parents spending as much time with them as possible.
I know schools rely on computers for so many things these days, but I don't have enough information on that to be able to be helpful to you.
I'm looking forward to hearing more about Tomorrow's School!
Compliments Lisa M Weby Martinez:
1) I have actually been involved in building one of the early models in New Haven School District in Newark, CA 1990
Audio Visual System - Distance learning was the name for this model in the 90's
2) Rocketship Education - School #6 a computer learning model for task based activities or the work a child does after having the instruction from the teacher.
The lab model supplies applications to desktops in a virtual model.
My daughter has the role of a lab specialist and tutor for small group sessions. In fact, her groups had shown the greatest progress in December.
Her school has only opened this past September, with exceptional progress compared to the amount of time in session.
Her tutoring groups have reported and been verified twice (from what I understand - it was such an increase in such a short period of time they needed to have validation that the system wasn't broken);
The students have in only been attending the school for 5 months
The Results indicate 89% improvement.
RocketShip Education has opened 6 and has been authorized to open 20 more schools in the next few years.
The results are awesome and a model program for Teachers as well as cost effective model.
I've actually done a lean six sigma project on this subject.
These schools and the students have been in the lowest deciles (PI) for the entire time since NCLB was put in place.
:) I cannot say enough for proven success!
Congratulations to you, Lisa and to your daughter for your great achievements! Every child can and should follow their dreams and realize them, through perseverance and dedication.
